T3 Technology Conference

I attended the T3 Conference in Dallas.   My purpose of attending was to understand how the software I use stacks up to what’s out there today.  I have few complaints about what I use and what it provides, but I was blown away by where the software for the planner industry is headed.   The RIA (registered investment advisor) industry has attracted the attention of Venture Capital and the integration between software products is ballooning.  There were a number of companies that were only a year old and just released their product.  One I spoke with had taken a company public in another industry and had just introduced his software,  he has 11 users.  Cool stuff and it’s moving and changing fast.   Here’s what caught my attention:

eMoney — slick looking and used like Mint.com for the client, all spending and financial information is there for both the client and advisor to see.  I also has an interesting retirement planning module.  I’ve signed up for the trial and can’t wait to get my fingers into this one.

Estate Advisor — I’ve signed up for the 30 day trial.  A “Safe” for all your important estate documents.  Access can be for those you specify (I gave all three kids access) or access can be limited for after death only to the person(s) you specify.

Wealth Minder — this one may be a bit further down the road — but looks to have great potential in providing planning and investment advice over the web.

That’s it for now, it’s Valentine’s Day, I’m on a flight to Chicago but my flight from Chicago to Manchester, NH is a no go (stupid snow).   Let’s hope I don’t spend the winter in Chicago and get a flight for tomorrow!
